Pointe Coupee Parish man arrested for possession of stolen things

Press release

For immediate release: November 27, 2023

Baton Rouge, La. – On November 21, 2023, inspectors with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s (LDAF) Brand Commission arrested 60-year-old Anthony R. Allen of Batchelor, Louisiana, for illegal possession of stolen things. The arrest was the result of a warrant from Pointe Coupee Parish.

The Brand Commission’s investigation revealed that Allen allegedly illegally possessed stolen agriculture components and implements valued at approximately $21,000. The components and implements, along with a utility trailer, had been reported stolen by a Pointe Coupee agriculture producer on October 29, 2023, to the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Department. As a result of leads pursued by brand inspectors and Pointe Coupee Parish detectives, some of the stolen property was recovered in an adjacent parish, implicating Allen’s involvement.

Allen was arrested without incident by the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Department and booked in the Pointe Coupee Parish Detention Center pending bond at $30,000.

"LDAF’s Livestock Brand Commission works closely with local law enforcement agencies across jurisdictions,” said Commissioner Mike Strain, DVM. “Through their diligence and cooperation, we’re able to work towards solving crimes like this one.”

All persons accused of crimes are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Livestock Brand Commission maintains a 24-hour Crimestoppers hotline at (800) 558-9741. The public is urged to report thefts or other agriculture-related crimes to this number.
